The Adult Program Provides support to families caring for an adult 18 years and older with an Intellectual disability and residing in Northumberland County.
The Developmental Services Ontario, Central East (DSO), is the central access point for adult developmental services. responsible for determining eligibility for Adults. Note that there can be a significant waiting period and we recommend contacting the DSO a year or more before an individual reaches the age of 18.

How it Works
The Adult Program provides respite support of up to 4 hours per week or 1 weekend per month based on each family’s individual needs. Fees are nominal.
The waiting period may vary and depends on a number of factors, one being time for a family or caregiver to make a final determination about the suitability of their chosen worker. Respite may take place in the home of the family, with a host family, or within the community depending on the family requirements.
Respite providers are carefully screened by Northumberland Family Respite Services and some of the requirements include a Police Check, a Vaccination Record, the completion of a Profile, and possible interview (depending on program requirements).
